UB counselors are available to students, faculty, and staff 24 hours a day. If you need help, just call. Or if you know someone who is experiencing emotional problems and don’t know what to do, call Counseling Services and a Counselor will call you back.
Counseling Services provides same-day crisis appointments.

- If you live off campus, call Counseling Services. Call 911 if the need is urgent.

I know a student who exhibits unusually violent behaviors. What do I do?
Immediately contact UB’s Counseling Services office or one of the other offices listed here. Counseling Services is available 24 hours a day to students, faculty, or staff in crisis.
Anyone – faculty, staff, student or community member - may report concern for students to University Police (716) 645-2222 or Counseling Services (716) 645-2720 at any time. Counseling Services is available 24 hours a day to students or faculty in crisis. If necessary, Counseling staff will work with University Residence Halls & Apartments, Student Health Services and other university departments to be sure your friend or colleague is taken care of. You may also ask any of UB professional staff, including advisors, Student Response Center, staff in residence halls and apartments, or in any administrative office, for information on where to go for help.
UB’s professional staff, especially University Police, Counseling Services, Health Services and residence halls are trained in identifying students at risk and are always there to help students when they need it.
In addition, UB’s Student Wellness Team offers suicide prevention training to all members of the campus community (faculty, staff, students, and parents).
